Liriodendron tulipifera—also known as the tulip tree, tulip poplar, and yellow-poplar. Potted Tree 18-25 inch tall.
This large, stately, deciduous tree native to the eastern North America will grow rapidly to 60-100 foot tall and 30-50 foot wide. This easy care tree will put on a spectacular showing of spring blooms in May to June that resemble yellow/orange tulips. The bright bluish-green leaves turn a golden yellow color in the fall.
Makes a great shade Tree, street tree or flowering tree. Just do not plant close to building or other plants and trees as this tree will grow rapidly and crowd out neighboring trees.
A major timber tree, tulip trees are used for furniture, plywood, paper pulp and lumber. It is the state tree of Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. Will grow in USDA zones 4-9. Likes full sun, regular moisture and is tolerant clay soil and wet soil.
Tulip trees attract numerous pollinating insects, birds and mammals. The flowers provide nectar for ruby throat hummingbirds. The seed provide food for birds, mice, squirrels, and rabbits and it is the host plant for tiger and spice bush swallowtail butterflies.
