Selling a Lot of 16 Etchings by “John C. Janes”
Some of the Etchings have Foxing on them due to age, and from how they were stored.
Not all the Etchings are attached to the Matt…the tape has loosened, and fell off…..
The Name of the Etching, the Numbering, and the Measurement of the Etching itself is on the pictures I provided themselves. Measurement of the print was taken from Left to Right, and from Top to Bottom of print right above the signature. Measuring to under the signature adds more measurement to the framing.
***(I am measuring the print itself)***
About the Artist:
John C. Janes, printmaker and graphic artist, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 31,1882. In 1894, he became an apprentice to the Chicago engraver Julius H. Ahrman. Janes moved to California in 1924, settling in Alhambra in the south. He produced a body of etchings featuring animals and ships and two of his etchings were given to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1933. He must have preferred anonymity as very little information has been found on his work and career. Janes died in Alhambra, California on October 23, 1975
