This is an unmarked handmade sliding short banana cheek snaffle gag bit in well maintained pre-owned condition. This particular bit is made with sweet iron banana shanks and has some light rust. The shanks measure 4 inches in total length, the length of the gag is 3 inches and the copper wrapped twisted wire mouthpiece is 5.75 inches wide x 3/8 inches in diameter. This unique gag features a sliding cheek that allows for natural flexion and lift in the shoulder. The bit should be adjusted to fit with one wrinkle at the corner of the horse's mouth. The copper wrapped sweet iron keeps the horse's mouth moist allowing the bit to move freely as designed. This bit can be either gentle or harsh, depending on the hands of the rider.
Sliding gag snaffles are frequently used by Gymkhana riders, but they are also useful in training rail and pattern horses and will make an amazing addition to your tackroom collection. Barrel racers find that this bit allows the rider to pull on a horse in a turn and his mouth won't get hard or dull because the gag action always seems to keep a horse "fresh". It has just the right amount of draw on the shanks. This is a great feeling bit that encourages bend in a turn. Generally, horses maintain a nice soft mouth in a bit like this. This useful bit will make a great addition to your competition bit collection.
