One of the most Dramatic events in the history of Human Achievement was the meeting of the Union Pacific and Central Pacific Railroads at Promontory Summit, Utah on May 10, 1869. At 12:47 P.M. at a given signal Central Pacific Railroad president Leland Stanford and Union Pacific chief engineer Grenville Dodge used a Silver-Plated Hammer to gently tap the Solid Gold Last Spike. The Telegraph Wires were so arranged that the taps were flashed to all parts of the United States so that eager thousands in N.Y., Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia and other large cities at that moment knew the Rail was laid and the Pacific Road complete! The Original Site is located at: 41° 37.04' N, 112° 33.049' W. The meeting meant the joining of a continent. The 2000 miles from the Missouri River to the Pacific was reduced to Six Days travel time instead of Six Months. Additionally, the cost of traveling across the continent was reduced from approximately $1000 down to a mere $70. This achieved to the Continental United States, a Rail Link from Ocean to Ocean.
