✅ For sale: one 4 ft. Che Seedless (Chinese Mulberry) plant (Cudrania tricuspidata), a 1-year-old grafted tree. Grafted onto Osage Orange (Maclura pomifera) rootstock to prevent root suckering. Hardy in USDA Zones 6-9, this fast-growing tree can reach 10-30 feet tall and up to 25 feet wide, though it can be pruned to maintain a smaller size. If the plant outgrows the shipping box during summer, it may be pruned to 36 inches or have its tip carefully bent inside the package.
✅ Che trees are a unique relative of mulberries and figs, native to central China. Traditionally, their leaves were used as a secondary food source for silkworms. The tree produces a prolific crop of maroon-red, ½-inch fruit with a sweet flavor reminiscent of figs and watermelon. If a male plant is nearby, the fruit will develop seeds; otherwise, it remains seedless.
✅ Best grown in full sun with deep, well-drained soil that retains moisture throughout summer. While it thrives in Zones 6-9, there are reports of successful growth in Zone 5. However, in cooler climates, summer heat may be insufficient for proper fruit ripening. This tree is naturally resilient to pests and diseases, though birds and deer may be attracted to the fruit and foliage.
✅ From May through September, the plant will be sent in a container with soil. Do not disturb the roots during summer; transplanting should only be done when the plant is fully dormant (November to March). During dormancy, it will be sent bare-root with roots wrapped in wet media.
✅ Your order will arrive in good condition. If any issues occur during transit, contact us the same day with a detailed description and photos so we can assist you.
