Description
This is a gorgeous and rare length of antique silk embroidered ribbon trim.
4 YARDS length. 1 3/8" wide.
My mom purchased it at a Paris flea market as a memento, and then could never bring herself to use/cut it.
I believe it is silk - I did a burn test on a tiny snippet and it is a natural fiber. Def feels and looks like silk.
Flower and berry design, with narrow geometric border on one side.
It seems to me that it has William Morris influence, so I could possibly date to the Arts and Crafts Movement / late 1800s / Early 1900s. This is my best guess.
The embroidery is muted purple, dusty pink, green, muted gold on black.
Just a beautiful and very rare piece.
Excellent condition overall, with one disclosure:
There is a stain/discoloration on one area - about 3" long, and about 17" from one end. Then, there are a couple of subtle color variations not far from that, but not very obvious. PLEASE SEE LAST TWO PHOTOS. I didn't notice until I was ironing this piece to photograph it. I would say it is perfectly usable as is - and I am very picky, but then i do embrace trivial flaws on fine antique items.
Otherwise, perfectly lovely.
From a smoke-free home.
