PORTUGAL IN PORCELAIN FROM CHINA 500 YEARS TRADE A. VARELA SANTOS.
"Portugal in porcelain from China. 500 years of trade" is a five-volume comprehensive study of Chinese export porcelain made specifically for the Portuguese market from 1520 to 1900.
This bi-lingual work, written in Portuguese and English, reports the history of Portugal's trade with China, with primary research on the people and institutions that ordered the porcelains.
Volume 3, with 155 illustrations, focuses on orders by the Portuguese aristocracy from the late 17th century until the mid-18th century, presenting also a summary of all the published information in the 20th century.
Each of the studied pieces is fully illustrated and accompanied by analyses of the armorials and Western design, placed within the context of the Chinese repertoire of shapes and designs, and annotated with the latest scholarship available by A. Varela Santos, Lourenco Correia de Matos and Margaret K. Gristina.
