The Rohmer Review #1
The Sax Rohmer Society; Baton Rouge, LA
small octavo in wraps (5.5” x 8.5”), 32 pp, very good
(July 1968)
A decent vintage copy of the inaugural issue of The Rohmer Review, a fanzine and collector's publication devoted to the works of British novelist Arthur Henry “Sarsfield” Ward (1883-1959), better known as Sax Rohmer. He is best know for his Fu Manchu series: thirteen novels, four short stories, and a play written between 1917 and 1977. Fu Manchu was an Asian criminal mastermind, and a member of the Yellow Peril.
Contents of this item are:
“An Informal Survey of the Works of Sax Rohmer” by Robert E. Briney
“The Incredible Captain O'Hagan” by Alvin F. Germeshausen
“The Romance of Scarabs” by Luther Norris
This item has some moderate sunning to the inside edge of the wrap with a few very small chips along the edge, a light dog-ear crease in the upper outside corner of the wrap; and the pages were a little out of registration when they were stapled, so the edges aren't exactly straight.
This first issue is the hardest one to find. Now you can complete your collection at a good price.
