DESCRIPTION ~ seaside*collectibles is happy to bring you this naughty little dog figurine with its lifted leg. His expression says it's an itch he can't quite scratch. This delightful piece is a genuine collectible antique in porcelain. BREED OF DOG ~ The Bulldog. "The BULLDOG, also known as British Bulldog or English Bulldog, is a breed of dog which traces its ancestry to England. The bulldog is a breed with characteristically thick shoulders and a matching head. There are generally thick folds of blubber on a bulldog's brow, followed by round, black, eyes that are far apart, a short muzzle, drooping lips, and the pointy teeth. Despite their famous sour mug expression, bulldogs are generally docile although can prove to be very fast movers over a short distance. They are friendly and gregarious but occasionally willful. The phrase stubborn as a bulldog is loosely rooted in fact. Due to their friendly nature, bulldogs are known for getting along well with children, other dogs and other pets."--W MATERIALS ~ PORCELAIN. Entirely hand painted. ref: B_DG18 ERA ~ Late 1930s - Early 1940s ORIGIN / HALLMARK ~ Marked in red: JAPAN. DIMENSIONS ~ 3 " x 2 " CONDITION ~ Excellent Vintage Antique Condition. No known cracks, crazing or repairs - overall detailing is very bright. Some rubbing on the red dog collar and some rough areas (old glue?) in the porcelain around the dog's mouth and bottom of lifted leg. Its stubby tail area has red residue (old, dried rubber band?) around it and there is an air hole at the flat end of the tail and underneath the figurine, as well. Only one figurine of this design is available at seaside collectibles.
