• This is a ca. 1864 City of Elizabeth Fire Department certificate exempting firemen from serving on a jury or in a militia. There are blank lines for entering the name of the fireman and for the signatures of the Chief Engineer and County Clerk. The artwork is extraordinary. The well dressed gentleman in the center seems to be offering the certificate to a woman of authority, wearing a crown and seated on a throne. Next to her is a woman wearing a winged helmet, which the mythological gods Hermes or Mercury wore to signify swiftness. This might be a reference to firemen swiftly responding to a fire to rescue people trapped, as seen in the bottom illustration where a fireman is carrying a young woman to an escape ladder.
  The woman with the winged helmet is pointing to the scene on the right representing industrial Elizabethport, complete with a train crossing a bridge over the Arthur Kill, tall masted ships, tall church steeple (St. Patrick's), factory smokestack, large iron gear, and a chemical retort flask representing a refinery.The fireman on the left seems to be fighting off a winged arsonist holding a smoky torch and riding on a fierce looking dog.Firemen's tools are evident such as an axe, horn, lantern and a helmet embraced by a young boy with wings. The entire scene is bordered with a floral motif with curling leaves, painted yellow and red, representing flames.

• Paper Option: We use Epson Premium Luster 260 lbs paper, which has a satin surface that minimizes glare and offers a wide color gamut. This heavyweight paper produces highly saturated prints that are smudge and water-resistant.
  
• Canvas Option: We use Epson Exhibition Canvas and Epson Ultra XD pigment inks. The canvas is a stretchable, polyester/cotton fabric designed specifically for high-quality pigment printers. It provides a smooth glossy surface, wide color gamut, deep rich blacks, and a traditional look and feel of artist canvas. The combination of archival materials allows the canvas print to be framed and displayed without the need for protective glass. The canvas prints have a longevity up to 200 years without fading. Like the paper option, canvas prints also come with a small white border for clean handling and easy framing.
