The concert also featured a surprise guest appearance from renowned drummer Philly Joe Jones.

Monk was dealing with a bevy of health problems at the time, so it’s perhaps understandable that the show in Paris was like a capstone or Greatest Hits. But thanks to Monk’s indelible ability to make everything emotional and poignant, his ace band and a bonus appearance from Philly Joe Jones, the set has an enchanting electricity.
