The Holy Family consists of the Child Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph. The veneration of the Holy Family was formally begun in the 17th century by Blessed Francois de Laval, the first bishop of New France, who founded a Confraternity.

In front of the image of the Holy Family, people pray for blessings for married couples, the preservation of harmony and peace in the family, protection from marital infidelity, resolution of difficult family conflicts, and improved understanding between parents and children.
