Journey Through The Past and it's soundtrack were released by Neil Young in 1972. The movie opened to poor reviews and was neither a critical nor a commercial success. Following after the highly successful album Harvest, which was released a year earlier, the soundtrack to the movie was released prior to the movie. Apparently the soundtrack was released against Neil's wishes.

It includes "For What It's Worth" and "Mr. Soul" from Buffalo Springfield. "Southern Man", "Find The Cost of Freedom" and "Ohio" were recorded during a CSN&Y concert at the Fillmore East in 1970. And "Are You Ready For The Country ", "Alabama" and "Words" are from the Harvest sessions recorded in 1971 at Neil's ranch.

NOTE: Under the name Bernard Shakey, Young has directed four films: Journey Through the Past, the concert film Rust Never Sleeps, the fictional Human Highway and Greendale.
