Description:  This is a nice glazed and slip decorated redware oval platter having a patriotic decoration in the form of a spread bald eagle with a shield on its chest in the center. The platter has a slightly flattened base with four small round feet on which it stands. The platter has rounded sides rising to a lightly coggled edge. The platter is decorated with a drawing in dark brown representing a spread eagle having a shield on its chest. The eagle is surrounded with stars of alternating brown and green five-pointed stars. The [latter has twisted rope handles on both sides. The platter is glazed on both sides, which is rather unusual for Breininger pottery, which always keeps the back unglazed. The back signed "Breininger Pottery; Robesonia PA; Nov. 16, 2004; nice fall day" under glaze, which makes it difficult to photograph and read. This type of redware is very much in the Pennsylvania Dutch style common in southeastern Pennsylvania specifically in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Lancaster counties. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
