This is a vintage 1950 Bavarian China coffee mug in clean unused pre owned condition featuring an adorable Panda Bear on the front. If you were a fan of the National Zoo's baby giant panda Bao Bao who has gone home to China, this beautiful collectible Bavarian mug is a great souvenir to remember her! The mug holds 6 ounces, but has only been used on display.
In 1930 Josef Kuba opened a small porcelain factory with its own little decoration studio in the city of Karlsbad which is now Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. During World War II the area was overrun by German forces and remained occupied until 1945. Following the end of the war, Kuba re-established his decoration business in Wiesau Bavaria. After the death of Josef Kuba in 1972 his son Horst Kuba continued business until he decided to close in 1989.
The marking "JKW" stands "Josef Kuba Werkstatte" Porcelain Factory and Decorating Shop that decorated in the "Vienna Style" Later marks of JKW include the words Western Germany, used after Germany was divided into East and West in late 1949.
