Playa Azul is in the town of Luquillo, Puerto Rico. It is not a crowded beach, and since it's on the Atlantic side, the water can be somewhat rough on some days. I photographed this lone walker on it one afternoon when my husband and I were visiting his mother and decided to paint it in pastels.
If you are unfamiliar with pastels, read on. They are made of pure pigment with minimal binder. They are a dry, immediate, and a vibrant medium to paint with. If properly handled and framed, they will rarely lose their vibrancy.
