This is an EXTREMELY RARE vintage piece of Advertising Ephemera
It is a Student Magic Slate made to promote/advertise Caraja Coffee, a variety of South American coffee, by the the Dwinell-Wright Company
I estimate it to be 1930's or earlier
It is authentic and original
It is about the size of a small notebook
Based on my research this may be the only known one still in existence
This is just like the Magic slates you may know from your childhood -- the reusable drawing device where you can draw, erase and reuse the device as many times as you choose by lifting the film paper
I suspect this was likely handed out to students in school as a way for the coffee company to promote the coffee to their parents
IMPORTANT CONDITION DETAILS: Pre-owned condition. This piece has general wear throughout and some damaged spots to the corners and edges. It also has staining in places. It is intact although the magic slate plastic film piece has come loose from the staples. The staples have also become rusted with age. Note I have not tested the magic slate to see if it works because the film sheet is loose and I don't want to damage it. Sold as is. See pictures for details.
