Triumph over the Odds: Inspirational Success Stories Hardcover – January 1, 1994by Louis Baldwin (Author)
Presents a historical view of bad luck turned good, examining the experiences of famous figures who worked through their failures to ultimately achieve success Editorial ReviewsFrom Booklist
Baldwin's 37 character studies stretch from Moses as he fought his oppressors to Ronald Reagan as he spearheaded negotiations at the 1976 Republican convention. In this interesting selection, Baldwin often retells events with more humor than reverence; for example, in the telling of Moses rescuing the maidens at the well and fighting off the shepherds, the author says, "He . . . fell upon the startled group like a mechanized flail, giving them a brief educational demonstration of how it feels to be on the receiving end." Overall, the result is inspiring, for the stories convey how politicians, playwrights, inventors, actors, military leaders, and religious figures struggled against adversity. Denise Perry Donavin
