This is a truly stunning and extremely rare Arma Christi Crucifix from the 1800's.
Made of wood with gilded metal accoutrements, this piece has been mounted on velvet in a lovely gilded metal frame and is ready to be hung on the wall in your home.
The pictures I took, and I took a bunch of them, simply do not do justice to the beauty and presentation of this old artifact. The box frame is 10 3/4" by 14 1/2" with a hanger and felt bumpers.
This is a very old Crucifix and shows the passage and damages of time, hence my use of the term "Artifact". Please look at the pictures for it's condition.
Arma Christi, or the Instruments of the Passion, are the objects associated with the Passion of Jesus Christ in Christian symbolism and art. They are seen as arms in the sense of heraldry, and also as the weapons Christ used to achieve his conquest over Satan. There is a group which are frequently used in Christian art, especially in the Late Middle Ages. Typically they surround either a cross or a figure of Christ of the Man of Sorrows type, either placed around the composition, or held by angels.
This is another piece from my personal collection that I have treasured for years..
