We're very excited about presenting this lovely 1950's Hearts & Roses embedded in Lucite atop an all Brass, multi-chamber compact with a tightly braded Brass carrying loop. When opened on one side you see a mirror on the left with clip which could hold a small plastic comb or perhaps some money too laying on top of the mirror which swings to the left or right. On the right side you see an imbedded brass lipstick holder on the on the top and on the same side there is a lidded brass area on the bottom which, when opened, reveals a sizable place for face powder with a rectangular applicator on it's top. In the later pictures you will see these two features opened up.
Condition - overall this compact is in remarkable condition for being 73 years old. The hinges work perfectly with no sticking. The latch works perfectly as well. The back side has some minor wear and scuffing. There is some minor wear on the edges of the mirror as well as a couple of small spots on the mirror itself. Remarkably, this is a beveled mirror yet there are no cracks or chips in the glass. On the right side there are some worn areas on the brass. However, the fold out lipstick holder is immaculate and it's Brass is without stain as is the pullout portion of the lipstick holder which actually holds the lipstick (Lipstick is not included). The compact's interior makeup powder door is in remarkable condition and opens up with a spring latch and works perfectly too (it literally springs open!). Once opened, it reveals a practically perfect powder applicator with a little mesh holder for the powder of your choosing (No powder is included).
When you open the back side, which holds the cigarettes and has a swing away cigarette keeper, this entire area is practically flawless on both sides, truly remarkable. Please see our pictures.
We think this is one of the most beautiful, unique intact evening purse/compacts we've ever come across.
