Large Antique Cabinet Card Photograph. Depicting the home and family of August & Emma Nagel in Irondale, near Port Townsend, Washington. Although the photographer is not identified, it is almost certainly by the Torka Bros. Studio. Measures approximately 14 x 11 including mount. Condition: This is an original photograph, not a copy or reproduction. It is in very good condition aside from a scrape along the bottom which can't be seen except when held at a certain angle to the light. The reverse side has album remnants, but is otherwise blank and without writing. Comments: Although originally from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and later Columbiana, Ohio, we know from the 1940 US Census the family was living in Irondale. August was born circa 1871, and Emma his wife about 1877, both in Germany. For a time, August owned a small store and gasoline station in Irondale, circa 1930s called "Kid Nagel's Place." Their son William "Bill" Nagel was a successful contractor in the area, and was instrumental in the creation of an upscale housing community near Port Townsend called Cape George Colony. Although there is no writing on the back to confirm this information, I can guarantee it is accurate because William "Bill" Nagel was my great-uncle. He is the older boy, second from the left. I don't know the names of the other siblings.
