Red abalone has been used since prehistoric times & the Native American people harvested the species along the central & northern coast of California. Being one of the largest "edible" species in the family Haliotidae they were a great food source.

Even though red abalone has been used since the early times, these red abalone were harvested in the 1940's (1942 Point Arena, California) for their abundant food source. These shells were then used in jewelry making, then passed down in the family for years, mostly forgoten  about just packed away and stored.

Great for crafts, inlays, jewelry making and many other uses, rich vibrant colors and hues, vibrant iridescence colors, beautiful mother of pearl. Excellent shape for any collector or hobbyist. This group of shells are being sold as a 3-Piece set, and are slightly polished. All washed and cleaned with hot soap & water. Please note I have three other lots for sale as well, please see add'l. listings for that perfect set which matches your desires.

All shells have natural imperfections like barnacles, worm holes etc.
