For your consideration is a vintage Black Americana handmade shelf sitter.  There is a mom that is 7" tall in the sitting position wearing a cloth dress and her son sits on her lap and is 4" tall.  He is all painted and he is holding a piece of watermelon.  The mom is holding a sign saying "Free Kittens (box-trained) in one hand and has a jute rope in the other hand with a kitten on the other end.  Made of 3/4" wood.
