This is for a new old stock genuine Mercedes star-branded air conditioning expansion valve for W123's based on the following vehicle VIN/production dates. Generally this is for non-turbo. Check the last 6 digits of your VIN.
240D up to VIN# ending -169394
300D up to VIN# ending -181803
300CD up to VIN# ending -006929
300TD up to VIN# ending -015279
Every other brand of these expansion valves today are C h i n e s e made. Original Mercedes Equipment equals "one and done". This valve works with R12 or R134a.
W123 AC: If you open up your system for any reason replace the drier. If the expansion valve isn't brand new replace it too. Short of doing a complete system makeover with a modern Sanden compressor these systems cool significantly better with a modern condenser. Your original copper tube and fin condenser is totally inferior to every condenser made in the past 20 years. Replace it with a modern 'parallel flow' condenser. No other AC component can lower your vent temps like a PF condenser. Also, using R12 in an R12 system is hard to beat. R12 runs at much lower pressures than R134a and is more efficient at transferring heat out of the system. There are lots of listings online selling R12 refrigerant. R12 is 100% legal to buy and use, they just can't make more of it. A W123 with a parallel flow condenser actually uses less R12 due to the increased efficiency.
