Jay Willfred Imported by Andrea by Sadek Majolica Made in Portugal Grapes and Leaves Large Platter Bowl
This is a beautiful Majolica Grape and leaves large serving platter/bowl, imported for Andrea by Sadek from the Jay Willfred collections, made in Portugal. It is an absolutely beautifully detailed porcelain serving platter, with raised grapes and leaves with a vine inspired handle. The platter is in new condition with original sticker intact and is a fine example of traditional Majolica pottery. The platter measures 12 inches in diameter by 2 inches deep and is dished making it dual use as a platter or bowl, or even a great wall decoration!
Andrea by Sadek, also known as Charles Sadek Import Company, or Jay Willfred, was founded in 1936 by Charles and Norman Sadek and is still owned and operated by the Sadek family. A WWII Marine, Norman broke new ground in postwar trade with Japan. An early innovator, Norman inspired Japanese factories to produce higher quality products and was the first Japanese importer to use cartons. Andrea by Sadek products with the stamp “Occupied Japan” can still be found in the marketplace today. An overseas buyer for over 50 years, Norman also participated in the opening of China. Sadek was one of the first to bring Chinese products to market, getting a jump on competitors by purchasing a warehouse of readymade products, then venturing into the mainland to work directly with factories. After 40 years as the sole overseas buyer, he taught his craft to son Jim and daughters Andrea and Lauren, today’s leaders of Andrea by Sadek. Currently, Charles' son, Jim and his family manage the daily operations. The company was named for Jim's sister, Andrea, who is heavily involved in the design of Sadek's products. Andrea by Sadek works with factories around the world to create over 3,000 unique designs for the table, kitchen and home. Each product is high-quality and beautifully hand-crafted in bisque porcelain and are ideal for collectors and designers alike.
