Wells Fargo Bank Legendary 2014 Pony El Toro Cremello Horse Stuffed Animal Plush
Throughout their history, Wells Fargo has depended on horses to deliver for their customers. Horses led the Wells Fargo wagon through thousands of communities, and pulled Wells Fargo stagecoaches and continue to do so today. To salute their service, Wells Fargo has produced plush pony toys, each for a limited time.
Wells Fargo drivers and agents in Mexico City had great affection for the horse El Toro, whose name means “The Bull” in Spanish. At 27 years of age, he was the oldest horse in the stables, and he worked only a few hours a week to keep limber and in good health. El Toro pulled the Wells Fargo express wagon through the streets of Mexico City, delivering packages and picking up important express deliveries from Wells Fargo customers. On days when he worked, El Toro passed through the decorated archway of the company’s headquarters, located in a historic colonial building, into a busy courtyard filled with workers loading express wagons.
From its headquarters in Mexico City, Wells Fargo & Company encouraged the development of the agricultural, manufacturing, and tourism industries in Mexico. Wells Fargo organized and transported large shipments of food like avocadoes and raw resources like rubber to new markets in the US. Manufactured equipment like cameras and metal pipes traveled from the US to new business in Mexico by Wells Fargo. The company even published commercial guidebooks to help connect buyers and sellers across the US-Mexico border. Wells Fargo agents in Mexico helped tourists cash travelers checks, send and receive money, and organize trips using travelers guides published by Wells Fargo.
Wells Fargo’s success in Mexico led it to publish an article in the April 1913 edition of its company magazine, the Wells Fargo Messenger. While describing the company’s more than 750 express offices and operations along the 16,000 miles of railroad and steamship line throughout Mexico, the company featured a photograph and description of El Toro, making him one of the most remembered figures of the company’s time in Mexico.
The cream colored El Toro Wells Fargo Legendary Pony was released in 2014. Like all the Wells Fargo plush ponies, El Toro is very soft and is not meant to be displayed in a standing position.
