Tunis, Edwin, SHAW’S
FORTUNE THE PICTURE STORY OF A COLONIAL PLANTATION, Cleveland: The World Publishing
Company, 1966. 1st/1st
red cloth hardcover w/black ink titling to spine and vignette in black ink to
front board, 8vo (8.125 x 11), Good / Good, 63 pp. Small amount of staining to text, a few holes
in hinge but still quite strong, jacket is lightly soiled and chipped at head
and tail of spine. Though it is indeed the picture story of a colonial plantation, this book, written for children, gives massive input into the contributions, roles and living conditions of colonial era slaves. Indeed, Mr. Shaw's massive house, pictured therein, and his entire plantation would quite probably not existed at all if not for the efforts of the slaves. Well presented information with high quality, well informed illustrations. Quite the Capture of Tyme indeed. |
