The scarf describes the history of the Olympic games in Ancient Greece with many details.  The ancient Olympic Games were a series of athletic competitions among representatives of city-states and were one of the Panhellenic Games of Ancient Greece. They were held in honor of Zeus, and the Greeks gave them a mythological origin. The originating Olympic Games are traditionally dated to 776 BC. The prizes for the victors were olive leaf wreaths or crowns.
The dolichos or dolichus (Greek: ΔΟΛΙΧΟΣ, English translation: "long race") in the ancient Olympic Games was a long race (c. 4800 m) introduced in 720 BC. Separate accounts of the race present conflicting evidence as to the actual length of the dolichos. However, the average stated length of the race was approximately 12.5 laps or about three miles. The event was run similarly to modern marathons (the runners would begin and end their event in the stadium proper), but the race course would wind its way through the Olympic grounds.
The Tethrippon - Chariot racing was one of the most popular in ancient Greek Olympic games.  The event was first introduced at the 25th Olympiad  680 BC. [In standard racing practice, each chariot held a single driver and was pulled by four horses ( ΤΕΘΡΙΠΠΟΝ)
Miltiades, one of the most important figures of ancient Greece, served as the general of the army of Athenians which defeated the Persians in the famous Battle of Marathon. Miltiades offered the helmet to Zeus after he returned victorious from Marathon, thus saving the great city-state of Athens from the hands of the Persians.
Discus of Poplius Asclepiades - this is the discus dedicated to the sanctuary of Olympia by the Olympic champion Poplius Asclepiades. There is an incised inscription that the discus is an offering to Olympius Zeus by the Corinthian Poplius Asclepiades, winner of the pentathlon during the 255th Olympic Games (241 A.D.).
The 1896 Summer Olympics - officially known as the Games of the I Olympiad and commonly known as Athens 1896. Was the first international Olympic Games held in modern history.
