THE TRUTH ABOUT TOBACCO

by Bernarr Macfadden

Condition: Very Good- in Good dust jacket

Until the 1950s and '60s, the most prominant foes of smoking were health gurus such as the author of this book.  And in the Roaring '20s, when this was written, publication of an anti-smoking book was unusual.  But that was when Bernarr Macfadden was at the peak of his career, writing prolifically books on health and fitness.  His opposition to tobacco went beyond health reasons, of course, as much of what we know today about cancer and heart disease was not known then.  183 pages. This is an early printing.  More than a third of the front cover is stained (or rubbed?) and the spine has some fading; otherwise, pretty light exterior wear.  Except for some small pencil writing on the end pages, the interior appears to be unmarked, with a large corner crease and several minor ones; there is foxing and general darkening of pages, plus a few small stains and minor page edge bumps.  The binding is quite tight, with no gutter splits detected.  The very scarce jacket has edge tears and chips, with some paper loss at the spine ends.
