Antique Real Photo Postcard. Identified as a toboggan run at the Poland Spring resort in Maine. This is a rare, one-of-a-kind image captured on behalf of the individuals in the scene. Card has embossed stamp and also print on back, both reading "Poland Spring Maine." Divided back, postmarked 1918 from South Poland, Maine. Handwritten note addressed to Miss Constance Percival of Boston reads, "On the tobbogan (sp) waiting for Esther Page to get seated she is the last one. The girl next to me is Selina Dwenell and Mrs. Dwenell is holding us back, Love Elizabeth." Condition: This is an original photo postcard, not a copy or reproduction. It is in very good condition with front impression of postal cancel and publisher stamp. Comments: A news article featuring winter recreation activities at Poland Spring states, "A toboggan run was constructed, which extended over a 1/4 mile from the crest of Ricker Hill down a steep slope to the frozen surface of Middle Range Pond. This exhilarating ride was a popular activity for resort guests on extended stays -- as well as recreational day-trippers from the surrounding area."
