Black Chokecherry is a native of North America that forms a small tree or large shrub. Black Chokecherry has clusters of white flowers that attract butterflies, and astringent black berries that are eaten by birds. Many varieties provide fall color.
High in antioxidants it has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects. It can be used against Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and type A influenza virus. It is also being studied to help treat diabetic patients, and to fight colon and breast cancer. No toxic effects have been noted.
Berries are high in pectin and can be added to other fruits when making no added pectin jam.
Blooms appear in these approximate colors: White. The blooms display an average of 5 petals. When ripe, fruit appear in these approximate colors: Cool black. Black Chokeberry is a flowering edible fruit deciduous, it will shed its leaves annually. Black Chokeberry is known for its shrubby habit and growing to a height of approximately 2.50 meters (8.12 feet). This plant tends to bloom in late spring, followed by first harvests in mid summer. How to grow Black Chokeberry

Keep in mind when planting that Black Chokeberry is thought of as very hardy, so this plant will tend to survive through freezing conditions. 
Harvesting Black Chokeberry
Fresh berries are edible but are tart and bitter.1 Birds eat them. 1 Jam and jelly are made from them and the sugar helps improve flavor. 1 Best to harvest after they have been through at least one frost.
