Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy on-set photograph taken during the production of the popular 1980's cross-dressing comedy, TOOTSIE, released in 1982 by Columbia Pictures and directed by Sydney Pollack, in which Michael Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman), an unsuccessful actor, disguises himself as a woman in order to get a role on a trashy hospital soap. The cast includes Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, Dabney Coleman, and Charles Durning.
The image depicts an on-set shot taking during a break in filming and depicts star Dustin Hoffman and director Sydney Pollack. This actual photograph was used for publication in a newspaper and features the corresponding newspaper clipping affixed to the verso. It is in fine+ condition as shown.

Though the working title for the film was originally "Would I Lie to You?", Dustin Hoffman suggested the title "Tootsie". "Tootsie" was the name of his mother's dog. Hoffman tried out his role as Dorothy by passing himself off as his daughter's Aunt Dorothy at her parents' evening at school. His performance was so strong that he actually convinced the teachers present--they never suspected. The crew would only give bad news to Hoffman if he was in drag, citing that he was "much nicer as a woman."
