Rock was found/collected at Uravan Colorado, the oldest uranium field in the entire USA. Its rocks

provided fuel for the atom bomb dropped on

Hiroshima Japan in August 1945. Uraninite's

identifying characteristic is its dark, sometimes

black surface reflectance.

The Uravan uranium fields closed down during

the mid 1980s, because of declining commercial

demand for uranium ore. During the coming

decade, demand for uranium ore will increase

because nuclear energy does NOT have carbon

waste matter, and it does NOT contribute 

to the Global Warming problem.
