Laid in is a SIGNED, double-sided, hand-written, warm and creatively funny letter to 'Bert Masterson', that talks about Miller living at Ed Allen & Dottie's home. An association copy, as the printed dedication page states: "For Dotty & Ed Allen who always look out for me in that wildest of wildlands--New York." Illustrated with forty-seven photographs by Lew Walker on black-and-white plates. Max Miller, a naturalist, bird researcher, writer and journalist, is most renowned for his book I COVER THE WATERFRONT which was adapted to the 1933 film starring Claudette Colbert and Ben Lyon. This journal of exploration seeking nature, the sea, and birds has become an historically significant California naturalist reference. Lower corners slightly bumped, rub-wear to upper and lower spine edges, else very good in blue linen with reverse raised titles to a gilt panel and decorative gilt borders to the spine, blue-and-white headband and tail-band; in a price-clipped very good dust jacket with fading to the spine panel, chips to the upper and lower spine ends and upper edge of the rear panel, and short tears, crimps and nicks to the shelf-edges.
