Rubbed wear to the spine ends, dripped coffee stain along the edge of the rear endpaper and a small portion of the corner of the lower pages edges, else a very good copy; lacking the dust jacket.
The front endpaper bears a dated inscription to "Jim"--SIGNED by Gilroy, with two short inscriptions SIGNED by Edgar Lansbury (producer and set designer), and by Joe Beruh (financial backer).
The play was a major critical and commercial success, with 832 performances.
Gilroy won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play won the Tony Award for Best Play and Best Featured Actor (Jack Albertson) and The New York Drama Circle's Critics Award.
Gilroy also wrote the screenplay for the 1968 film that garnered Albertson an Oscar for his performance.
