Description:  Antique snuffbox or snuff box made of unidentified metal in the form of a shoe. The shoe is painted or japanned in blue coloring on the outside. The top of the shoe has bright-cut engraved decoration throughout. The top of the shoe has a hinged lid that opens to reveal the inside compartment. The shoe has a heal and a pointed tip. It has two labels on the inside, one describing the item and another with the inscription S&S (we truly do not know what that means). We chose not to remove the labels and instead we are selling the box as found. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. 

Date: Uncertain, but most likely early to mid 1800s. 

Origin: Continental, most likely England. 

Size: The box measures ~3 7/8" long, ~1" wide, and is ~1" at its highest. The piece itself weighs almost two ounces.

Marks: Unmarked. 

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: An antique and interesting piece with a common design that is nicely decorated. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty and condition of this piece. This is truly a nice piece and would make a great addition to any collection. 

Condition: The box is in very good condition with no major problems. The lid closes tightly and hinge works as it is supposed to. It does have some minor scratches and a few minor dings. The blue Japanning color shows considerable wear and losses throughout. The inside is generally clean and shows no damage. There are two labels on the inside, one describing the item and another with the inscription S&S (we truly do not know what that means) possibly from the previous owner or from the original dealer. All of these issues can be seen in the photos. Be that as it may, the piece is intact and looks great. A nice antique piece to add to your collection.
