Lady Cougar Knockoff of the BEN HOGAN 1983 Radial forged 3-SW IRON SET

Some Ben Hogan History

Throughout all its iterations dating back to 1953, the Ben Hogan Company has had its good days and its bad days. There have been major championships and changes in ownership, along with comebacks, setbacks, mothballing, bankrolling, shutdowns and other showdowns.

Love it or hate it, it’s the brand that simply refuses to die.

The Ben Hogan Radial iron set features and radial sole design and graduated cavities. The progressive design allows for easy trajectory control and maximum playability. These were made in 1983 and can best be characterized as one of the first GI blades, with a wide sole for a beginner, but blade profile and feel.

REVIEW: "I've always played blades because the GIP's always looked ugly and "gimmicky" to me. After reading that both Ben Hogan and Moe Norman played with very heavy clubs, I thought I'd try the heavy Hogan Radials made in the early 80's. Got a great deal . Full set (woods and irons) for $125. Fantastic clubs! Addressing the ball, you see a gorgeous compact chrome head with a thin top line. It actually delicate, yet when you waggle it you can feel you've got something substantial in your hands. Swinging it, you can really feel the clubhead, which I find encourages me to "swing" the club rather that to "hit" the ball. I think this has definitely improved my ball-striking.

Although the radials are a forged club designed to be more forgiving than other Hogan blades, I find that contact is actually superior to other blades. Perhaps it's because of the extra weight, but you can barely feel the ball being hit (I guess that's the "buttery" feeling at contact that everybody is looking for).
One factor to keep in mind is the grip size. The set I got had fairly thick grips, one of which was badly worn. I replaced it with a regular grip that I'm more used to which was a mistake because it changed the swing weight, making the club too "bottom heavy" for my liking.

These are tremendous clubs. I recommend that you give them a try. You won't be disappointed!"
