You will get 2 Bulbs of Caladium Kathleen, Bi-color Pink Green Fancy Elephant Ear Heart of Jesus Angel Wings. Size #2.
Sweetheart Caladium 'Kathleen' will dash some color into your growing space with a happy bundle of candy-pink-blotched leaves. The fascinating semi-translucent pink hearts in the centre of the leaves steal the show, especially when the light shines through them. The thick green outer edge of each leaf provides the contrast and defines the shape. Pink and green are always a pleasing color duo in the plant world.
Caladiums are known for their big, heart-shaped leaves that display amazing color combinations.
Caladiums are winter hardy in zones 9-11. In these warm climates, the tubers can be left in the ground all year round. In zones 3-8, caladiums are usually grown as annuals, planted in late spring once the soil is warm.
Caladium bulbs can be planted directly in the garden during spring or started indoors four to six weeks before the average frost date. Soil temperature is an important consideration, as planting too early outdoors can cause tubers to rot. Plant your bulbs with the soil temperatures warm to 65°F-70°F.
These plants thrive in moist, well-drained soil and are generally happier in partial shade. Caladiums love shady areas!
Plant right side up. Caladium bulbs have a rather smooth bottom side and knobby (these are actually the eyes or growing points) top side. Though they will grow no matter which way you orient them, planting with the top side up will provide you with the shortest sprouting time and the happiest plant.
Planting depth. Your bulbs should be planted deep enough to cover them with 1 oe? to 2? of soil. A bit of bone meal would make your caladiums happy. Water after planting. Mulching helps preserve soil moisture and provides some weed control.
