Channel master CM-7000 replacement through hole capacitor kit
The Channel Master CM-7000 is an ATSC digital TV converter box with S-Video output. THIS IS NOT FOR DISH PAL DVR which is also re-branded by Channel Master and known as CM-7000PAL. That capacitor kit is a different listing. High quality 105C long life through hole capacitors for the Channel Master CM-7000. All 5 for the main board and all 9 for the power supply. The silver surface mount capacitors are not included, but they usually don't need replacement. If there are capacitors inside the shielded area, they aren't included. Very cheap or free shipping for additional kits. Please ask if you want two free SMD capacitors to increase the size of the existing debounce capacitors for the channel buttons, so that it will only change one channel when you change channels from the box. Just solder on top of the existing ones. They're right by the channel buttons so it should be obvious which ones they are.
This usually fixes the issue where the light continues to stay red after 18 seconds of being plugged in. The output from the 3v3 supply usually goes low, and the 3v3 to 1.25V supply on the main board goes low as well due to faulty capacitors, so the device never starts up. It's probably better to change the capacitors before the device fails if you can. When the 3v3 supply goes low the 5v and 12v tend to go too high since the regulation is based off the 3v3 supply. I've read that nearly all these CM-7000 units will fail after several years of use.
Most of the capacitors are marked according to the circuit board silk screen. Set aside the capacitors that say M on them for the main board. Most of the others are numbered according to what's on the power supply board. Not all of the voltages are the same as what they replace. The capacitors on the main board have a ground plane so they're difficult to solder. If you don't have the right tools, I recommend pulling them out from the top and soldering the new ones to the old leads and laying them down. Then use hot glue to glue them to the board and finally trimming off the excess leads from the pulled out old capacitors. The positive side of the main board capacitors have solder pads that are rather close to the ground plane, so if remove the solder mask while trying to solder with the wrong tools then that could complicate things.
Be sure to double check the polarity of every capacitor before powering up the unit. The negative side is marked with white lines on the silk screen. Check the main board capacitors for solder shorts too! The CM7000 doesn't delay the audio with the delayed video when changing channels, it has above average channel reception performance, and it has an S-Video output. I don't think it takes advantage of the higher bandwidth allowed with S-video, but with S-video you still get rid of dot crawl, rainbow colors, and a good TV should go in to unfiltered mode so you see a somewhat sharper image, so it'll be noticeably easier to read the fine print on drug and loan advertisements. Much of the time this item is listed somewhere else too, but that place doesn't have such a high search engine ranking so people rarely come across it. Shipping:
