When Denny of West Virginia, the pastor's boy, decides to make a burro flowerpot for his father's present he has no idea what adventure awaits him.
Accidentally dropping his father's present in the river, Denny is devastated as he watches it being carried away by the current. But Denny isn't about to let this happen and building a rude raft, he sets off down the river to find the present.
But it is Charles of Kentucky who finds the present and endeavors to return it. How they meet, become acquainted, and straighten out all the difficulties with the present make a fascinating story.
