Bedwyr lived in an isolated northern community where much of the codes and customs of the Roman Empire were preserved, but slowly fading. Following the withdrawal of the Roman legions, marauding bands of Saxons and Celts threatened the security of such small communities. The Romano-Britians, under the leadership of Bedwyr's father and later Bedwyr, are determined to rebuild the armed forces of the island. There is one thing lacking: cavalry. And these men will go to the ends of the Empire to find it.
