Miley Busiek Frost Bronze Bald Eagle Figurine "Together A New Beginning" (#6972)Item Description
Miley Busiek Frost
Spectacular Miley Busiek Frost bronze bald eagle figurine "Together A New Beginning" given out by Ronald Reagan, circa 1980. This piece measures 3 1/2" x 7" x 6 1/2". It is not monogrammed and is in good vintage condition as shown in the photos (note some small nicks). Truly extraordinary piece! This exquisite bronze statue of two bald eagles is a patriotic commemoration of Ronald Reagan's inauguration, dated with the phrase "Together A New Beginning". This statuette is one of several that were given out to returning hostages of the embassy hostage situation in Iran. Only 50 of eagle statuettes were produced and for the purpose of giving to the returning hostages the week of Reagan's inauguration. Miley Busiek Frost designed this statue. The design had come to her she was with her family in Wyoming, doing research on the American bald eagle. She observed a nest of eagles on a rocky cliff above the Platt River and she crafted a sculpture based on this theme. While watching Ronald Reagan's acceptance speech at the 1980 Republican Convention she took his phrase "Together, a new beginning" and gave her sculpture this name. When her sculpture caught the eye of those within the party, it led to it being accepted as the official commemorative piece for President Reagan's first inauguration. A bronze casting of it, base signed by Ronald Reagan, sat in the Oval Office for the eight years of his Presidency. Miniature versions, such as the one listed here, were given as gifts to those who attended the inauguration, and to the American hostages returning from Iran to meet with President Reagan. The design of this sculpture would later be incorporated into the Gold Eagle bullion that was first minted in 1985 and continues to be minted to this day. It features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings. Miley Busiek Frost is one of the nation’s most accomplished and respected sculptors. Her various original works have been commissioned by organizations ranging from the Navy League of the U.S., The Smithsonian American History Museum, the University of Texas and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, and the George W. Bush Presidential Center. SKU#6972.
