Description: A most beautiful and rather uncommon glossy finished mottled vermillion colored art pottery pair of bookends by the Roseville Pottery Company. This a very nice set of bookends with a small whitish flower and green leaves on a raised branch. They are in the Wincraft patter and were made in the late 1940s. The pieces are covered with a nice shiny glaze and have nice coloring and form. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Sometime post 1948.
Origin: The piece was made in Roseville, Ohio.
Size: The bookends measure ~6 1/4" high, with the base measuring ~4 1/2" by ~4". The two pieces together weigh over 1 1/2 pounds.
Maker: Roseville Pottery Company
Marks: In raised lettering on the bottom of the base the words "Roseville, U. S. A.; 259"
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a truly nice and uncommon piece which is very difficult to come by. The colors are rich, fresh and vivid and would display very well in your collection.
Condition: The pieces are in very good condition. They have no cracks, hairlines, or repairs. The colors are fresh and vivid with no losses. Both pieces have general light crazing to the glaze. Both pieces have some soiling throughout especially at the foot of the base, but this is truly a non-issue. Additionally, one of the pieces (the one on the left in the 5th photo) has a spot where the glaze and coloring did not fully flow and a small slub on the base. These are original too the making and do not affect the quality or beauty of the piece and are mentioned here for completeness. All in all, a great set of bookends to add to your collection or to use to hold your books. Please see photos for additional condition information.
