Description
Offered here is this Amazing Tilting Silverplate Ice-Water Pitcher with Stand. The pitcher and stand are both in excellent condition, although I cannot find any manufacture markings on either piece. The tilting water pitcher was created in the mid 19th Century, when double walled pitchers were invented to help keep liquids cool. These pitchers were quite heavy, and so the tilting pitcher was created with the intention of not having to lift the filled pitcher. The stand is concave at the bottom, to catch any condensation that may run off of the pitcher. This pitcher and stand are in exquisite condition, with little wear and only some light tarnishing. They both have amazing details, and very ornate embossed patterns on them. The stand has majestic looking birds at the sides, and the pitcher has a little figure at the top with a goblet in his hand. The pitcher has an ice flap inside the spout as well. The pitcher is engraved, "M. A. Martin, from Her Friends". The pitcher has beautifully etched details on the sides as well as the ornate embossed designs on the spout, handle, and trim work at the top and bottom rims. The pitcher is about 12" tall from the bottom to the top of the little figure on the lid. The pitcher is 11" across from spout to handle, 5.5" in diameter at the top rim, 7.5" deep, and 7.5" in diameter at the bottom rim. The stand is 18" tall, and is about 9.5" in diameter at the base. This is an amazing mid 19th Century Silverplate Tilting Ice-Water Pitcher. It is sure to be a centerpiece in your antique collection, and is a very rare item.
