This lovely scalloped serving spoon has written on the back of it's bowl in beautiful Script: "From E. Hansen 1897." On the upper top part of the back side of the spoon, written in the same script, yet smaller, is written "Willows," meaning unknown. On the lower end of the stem is stamped "PAT 1896". and then the word, "sterling". It's pretty amazing to get a spoon with this much detailed provenance that gives us the exact date as well as a personalized message, however cryptic. The overall weight is 25 grams, which makes it just 3 grams shy of an ounce. The overall condition is remarkable, especially considering that it is 123 years old!
