The story follows Catherine (Gwyneth Paltrow) a 27-year-old Care Giver and Home Nurse grieving after the loss of her father (Anthony Hopkins), a genius mathematician and scientist who worked at a local university and had his mind gradually deteriorate from mental illness. Her sister, Claire (Hope Davis), urges Catherine to leave their family home, but she refuses to leave as she is too attached until she meets ambitious former student Hal Dobbs (Jake Gyllenhaal). Hal is searching through her father's notes secretly and one day the two stumble upon each other when she come home from shopping and they quickly discover a mystery clue about her father. Catherine falls in love with Hal and his dedication to honor his teacher's legacy but struggles to keep her composure and sanity as they discover the truth behind her father's mental illness in this drama adapted from the Pulitzer Prize Award Winning  Broadway Play of the same name by David Auburn!!
