✅ You are purchasing a 1-2 ft. Che Seedless (Chinese Mulberry) plant (Cudrania tricuspidata), a 1-year-old female self-fertile variety. It is grafted onto Osage orange (Maclura pomifera) rootstock to prevent root suckering and encourage a tree-like form. Hardy in U.S.D.A. zones 6-9.
✅ This unique fruit tree, a relative of mulberry and fig, originates from central China. In addition to its abundant maroon-red, 1/2-inch fruit, traditionally, its leaves were used as a secondary food source for silkworms. The ripe fruit has a sweet flavor reminiscent of fig with hints of watermelon. If a male plant is nearby, pollination will cause the fruit to develop seeds.
✅ Plant in full sun with well-drained, deep loam soil. This fast-growing tree can reach 10-30 feet tall and up to 25 feet wide but can be pruned to maintain a smaller size. Some reports suggest it can grow in zone 5, though cooler climates may not provide enough heat for full fruit ripening.
✅ Plants are sent in a container with soil during summer. From October through April (dormancy period), they are sent bare-root with roots wrapped in wet media and plastic, secured in a box. International orders are sent soilless, with roots wrapped in wet media.
✅ Mailing is scheduled for Mondays or Wednesdays, with tracking provided for all U.S. orders.
✅ Your order will arrive in good condition. If any issues occur upon receiving the order, contact us the same day with a detailed description and photos so we can assist you.
