I believe the back of the earrings to be brass ... I cleaned a little of the back off to see the words that are embedded into the metal and it did come clean enough to read that they were Made In Western Germany.  

Both of the earrings do need a good cleaning as they are very tarnished and dark in color.  The glass beads are held together with metal wires.  Screw backs work great.
