*Thinning (also called finishing, texturizing, texturing, chunking, notching or blending) shears are ideal for shaping and blending work and removing large areas of hair.

Thinning shears are scissors designed to remove volume or "thin" hair without compromising the actual hair style.
Again, the primary use for thinning shears is to remove bulk and blend exterior hair layers. Currently most professional groomers use a wide variety of professional shears to cut hair, with some stylists using a pair of thinning shears for entire cuts to achieve results almost identical to using a clipper or razor.
