Antoine Louis Barye was a French Romantic sculptor of the early 19th century whose sculptures of confrontations between wild animals secured his enduring reputation. Barye's artistic gifts and vision helped make the animal spirit an icon of the Romantic Movement. Referred to as the "Michelangelo of the menagerie," Barye influenced great French masters such as Auguste Rodin and Henri Matisse. This classic statue is reproduced in the finest solid American bronze, cast in multi-colored patinas and then hand-polished to bring out the awesome details and highlights.
